Privacy policy

Bark & Bill is run by Hidit Hotta, trading as Nemesine Enterprises (“we”, “us”), based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what personal data we hold, why, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email us at [contact email: set NEXT_PUBLIC_CONTACT_EMAIL].
Two kinds of people, two roles
- Dog walkers who use Bark & Bill. We are the controller of your account data: we decide how it's used.
- Walkers' clients. When a walker adds you as a client or sends you a quote or invoice, the walker is the controller of your data and we process it on their behalf. Questions about it are best sent to your walker first; we'll help them answer.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), business name, phone number and business address.
- Business records you add: clients' names, contact details, addresses, dogs' names and notes; quotes, invoices, prices and walk bookings.
- Payment information: handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers. We keep a record that a payment was made and its Stripe reference.
- Waiting list: if you join it, your name, email address and, if you give them, your business name and town or area.
- Technical data: the cookies needed to keep you signed in, and server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To provide the service you signed up for: your account, quotes, invoices and payments. (Contract.)
- To take your subscription payments and keep financial records. (Contract, and legal obligation for tax records.)
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and fix problems. (Legitimate interests.)
- To send essential emails, such as sign-up confirmation, password resets and billing notices. (Contract.)
- To email people on the waiting list when Bark & Bill opens. (Consent, which you give by joining and can withdraw at any time.)
We don't sell personal data, show adverts, or use your records to train AI models.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted providers (“sub-processors”) to run Bark & Bill:
- Supabase: database, authentication and account emails.
- Stripe: subscription billing and card payments to walkers. Walkers who accept card payments also agree to Stripe's own terms.
- Vercel: website hosting.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they are bound by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account and business records: while your account is open. When you delete your account in Settings, they are deleted straight away from our live systems and from backups within 30 days.
- Records of subscription payments: up to 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Waiting list: until you create an account or ask to be removed, and no longer than 12 months after Bark & Bill opens.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete or move your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Many of these you can do yourself: edit your details in Settings, export invoices as a spreadsheet, or delete your account. For anything else, email [contact email: set NEXT_PUBLIC_CONTACT_EMAIL]. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Cookies
We only use cookies that the service needs to work. See our cookie policy.
Changes
If we make a significant change to this policy, we'll tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
